Frequently Asked Questions

Players and Teams

How are the Masters teams chosen?

Masters teams are chosen based on league status and location, with regards to where the particular event takes place.

How are the Masters players chosen?

Many of the players take part in legends teams for their clubs and an effort is made to ensure each Masters team is made up of those players that contributed as much as possible to their respective club. Fitness, age and availability are also taken into consideration with the goal of maximising each team's potential.

Events

How many Masters events are there in a year?

The Masters Football season runs from April 1 – 31 March. Throughout June and July, we host the UK Masters Cup, a series of 6 regional qualifying events where the winning team from each group goes through to the Masters Cup Grand Final, usually held in early September.

We also run several International Masters events. Once confirmed, details will appear on the Masters Football website.

Venues

Why are these venues chosen?

The venues are chosen for their locality to the teams taking place, as well as for the set up. Since Masters events are based on Ice Hockey sized pitches, we base each event on suitable arenas that either host Ice Hockey or have provision to accommodate the 60m by 30m pitch.

Rules & Referees

How do we choose the referees?

All referees are FA endorsed, with substantial experience in refereeing both Premiership and league football.

How does the sin-bin work?

Sin-bins will be used in an unofficial capacity for yellow card offences. The referee will suggest the player leaves the pitch for two minutes. Any player who receives a red card will be sent off immediately, cannot be replaced and will be banned for the next match.
